OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
Antonio Pelayo presents TATUAJE 2016 2nd Annual Tattoo Culture Tribute Soiree Unites 100+ Tattoo Artists, Latin Celebrities, Painters and Musicians to Raise Money For the Arts.
The 2nd annual Tatuaje festival celebrating the distinct tattoo culture of Los Angeles will return Saturday, July 30 at Plaza de la Raza, a kids arts education nonprofit that will be benefitting from proceeds from the event. Hosts Danny Trejo (Machette) and Patricia Lopez (Mex 2 the Max), and emcee Anthony Fernandez will guide partygoers through the night, featuring over 100 top tattoo artists, live painting, a live tattoo competition, an art exhibit by curator Freddy Negrete, music by DJ Gargamel & DJ ChrisRox, band performances by LP3 & The Tragedy, Corey Miller’s Powerflex5, The BlackOuts and Gabbas, and a fashion show by Wardrobe Divas.
Tatuaje 2016 is the secod production of the event by Antonio Pelayo, who will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Plaza de la Raza, a nonprofit that provides afterschool arts education and mentorship programs to children on the eastside of Los Angeles. “The main reason I produce Tatuaje and events like this is so I can raise funds for organizations that teach kids art,” Pelayo says. “Drawing was how I dealt with things growing up, but I had to learn how to do it on my own. What I love about Plaza de la Raza is that these skills and techniques are taught by artists who make a living from their work—who have mastered their craft. That kind of mentorship can’t be taken for granted.” The tattoo is one of the oldest art forms in the world, with the ink on skin phenomenon present in nearly every major civilization throughout history. Tatuaje 2016 is a tribute to the unique tattoo culture of Los Angeles, and its multiheritage meltingpot. The event will take place on Saturday, July 30 from 7pm to 1am at the Plaza de la Raza headquarters, located at 3540 N. Mission Road, Los Angeles, CA 90031.
