RIP NOVEL <3 TRIGZ FOREVER <3

GOING THRU ALL MY PICS…=(
I remember we all got together to raise money for our friend Novel, and Trigz helped out so much, didnt’ give a shit about the drama, he was just down, brought a big ass bag filled with arte and merchandise & random items hahaha. But he was so worried about Novel’s kids and it breaks my heart that shortly after he was taken away too; life is too short for nonsense. If anybody has the group picture we all took, please send it to me.

Recap of Art = Fashion Freedom

On August 20, 2016 Wardrobe Divas joined forces with two special foundations CancerMeNot and the Hub City Renaissance which took place at the infamous Art Share LA. located at 801 East 4th Place, Los Angeles, Ca. The panchangon was  6:00pm to 11:00pm and I must say that we were excited to be part of the first Annual Gala for Wardrobe Divas. This was an exclusive night filled with fashion, beautiful ladies everywhere, live performances and awesome Arte. Be ready to be inspired by a group of strong Mujeres making it happen in the Fashion industry for us all! And as it is quoted by Wardrobe Divas ” Be your kind of Beautiful”

The event was hosted by radio personality Calipso Aranda from Radio on the Dash, along with the sounds of DJ Tony; they were able to keep the crowd going throughout the night. I got the chance to help set up the last details before the event begun, hung out at the Wardrobe Divas booth among other vendors and stunning models, forgot to pick myself a Q-Vo Tshirt! As the night progressed, and the public crowded the entrance to get a taste of Chicas Catering, con unos tacos to make you lick your fingers. Wardrobe Divas hosted an art space/fashion show/convenient shopping while eating tacos and drinking cold cervezas all wrapped up in one. What else could the public ask for, everywhere one turned, a stunning pinup girl or handsome well dressed vato posing for the media press excited to get dope shots. La gente and the artists all bonded under the same roof admiring this mixtures of genres! Big uos to Bomb The Magazine, DJ Gargamel, Roten SKA, Anuh, Oscar Sketch Navarro, Carlos Funes, Aguilar Photography and all the participants. A big shout out to Cindy from Cartwheel Art that made her presence with a tour group whose jaws dtopped while watching our hot models everywhere; that’s right this is Los Angeles baby!

The runway show consisted of the collaboration of Ceci Punch Designs, NiCoco Creations and Wardrobe Divas. Must admit that this was my first time working with a Fashion show team and aside to the “traditional norms” of fashions shows portrayed on media and the fashion industry. I must say that these types of fashion shows, were you have women from all different backgrounds and physical types and although they are beautiful; are essentially important in our communities.  It might not be appreciated and can be understated by those who feel as if a model should live up to certain size standards. It is important to not only appreciate the culture behind this runway show, but to also analyze the undergoing revolution against the fierce Fashion industry of skin boned models. As we saw stunning beautiful and talented models on the runway that night at Art Fashion Freedom; and although the designers did an amazing job with their clothing lines, these models were representing all Women, mothers, sisters, regular women in all shape sizes. And as the crowd cheered them on, without knowing it, they were also contributing to the mission of Wardrobe Divas and that is to “be your kind of beautiful” powerful words can be taken in from all different types of individuals; believe in what you got, and how beautiful you are, its okay to be different. I left that runway show with an immense respect for Elvira Zamora, yes we want to look cute and fashionable, but not just any woman can rock this type of lifestyle; you got to be a Chingona. The kind of Chingonas that use any form of creativity aside to a rich cultural background and use it to revolutionize our bodies, our fashions, curves and tattoos, oh no we do not just stop there. These women hold degrees, business owners, inspirational role models, and artists to our fellow community. And this was the sole purpose of the entire night, the iconic pinup style beauties are a strong presence, you know they are the ladies that turn heads in any room with their bold statement of beauty and sense of confidence. Much love and respect to all the ladies in the place at Art= Fashion Freedom. A much needed thank you to Lalo Alcaraz and all the UCI Student Volunteers; thanks you for your skills on our Fashion Runway set. To all the bands, artists and vendors; it would not have been a success without your support.

Much Love & Respect,

Monica Smiles Tobon

Recap of Tatuaje 2016!

On Saturday, July 30, 2016 Antonio Pelayo Productions really set the bar high in entertainment for Los Angeles. Celebrating his 2nd. Annual Tatuaje , there is no better way to say this to you but Lincoln Heights was on fire! If you missed Tatuaje let me take you there and enjoy the way us Angelinos like to celebrate our culture, tattoos, good music and Arte. This reventon took place at legendary Plaza de la Raza and we all know half of the proceeds fund programs for the Lincoln Heights community. Great cause to help our younger generation and to have it done so with style and Tatuajes and to be hosted by Patricia Lopez, Danny Trejo and Emcee Anthony Fernandez, what a night to remember!

First of, I would like to thank Antonio for always welcoming me with open arms to his fantastic events, Natily I love you too your community will always come out and support your hard work. So the night started by picking up my hot Birthday girl Pesky Oner, amazingly talented artist and friend. As we got to the venue which for once got there right when it started to have a better chance of taking photos of the art gallery which was curated by the legend himself; Freddy Negrete. As we walked to Plaza de la Raza we were welcomed by my dear friend Eriberto Oriol; an accomplished photographer whose iconic images are recognized worldwide. Along with the Bombitas, custom bikes and other low riders brought to by Bomb Magazine, one can say that the party was getting started there. The energy walking thru the venue was surreal; so many stunningly beautiful people everywhere we turned; I felt right at home.

The Sullen Angels were everywhere that night and as this new movement of tattoo culture acceptance by society has broken many stereotypes and critical judgment on appearance and one of the areas that has changed a lot is for modeling and women. It used to be such a taboo for a woman to be considered a model covered in tattoos and now we have embraced those differences in body shape norms and body appearance by admiring these women as beautiful as they are; tattoos or not, you ladies rock! There was just so much to do, from the Live tattoo competition, awesome gallery art exhibit, catching to take pictures with all the celebrities that were walking all over Tatuaje but where the party really was at the Main stage with our homeboy DJ Gargamel spinning for us throughout the night. I have never witnessed the public get upset every time they made him stop playing! Ah the sight to see, we love you Gargamel; you really brought the best Cumbias, old school funk and boy did my feet hurt by the end of the night. Hot sexy Lizette from Sullen Angels, pinche loko Joe Formula, and you know the presence of the SKAsters was there. As Roten, Phowl, Payback, Big Flaks, and other members came out all the way from San Diego. Always great to see familiar faces supporting the same people I do too. Thanks Payback for dancing the old funky beats with me! Yes, no shame in my game as I got caought slipping a few times on the dance floor with Og Overgold, thanks Nick for keeping up to La Sonora Dinamita.

It was a gathering of talented professionals in the Tattoo industry, artists, friends and community supporters so at no point did I feel out of my element, the vibes at Tatuaje were on that “ Puro Pari” tip. As the night progressed and the crowd was getting loose to the shots of Jimador and Jack Daniels, Johnny Ortiz, Mike Flores, Danny Trejo and all actors lokotes made their rounds around the event cheering on the crowds and the backstage lounge room was the place to be, as you got to hang out with all these talented musicians, artists and models and get to learn more about their upcoming projects. The bands performed in front of a public that was 100% down on the dance floor, as Corey Miller’s Powerflx5, LP3 & The Tragedy, The Blackouts and Gabba Gabba Heys ripped the stage all night. As I mentioned it before, it was a surreal experience but it got real when the one and only Efren Ramirez comes on stage and gets down on the harmonica. He spoke to us about his humbling beginnings in his very own stomping grounds of Lincoln Heights and as you might have guessed it, yes he said it, “Vote For Pedro”!

Tatuaje also held their very first Pachuca contest and it was a hit, as Wardrobe Divas finalized the touch of style with their very own inspired Pachuca/o Fashion Shows presented the Men’s look by El Pachuco Zoot Suit, flowers by Cute by Bupi and hosted by Leslye Rox. Great job Elvira, you are one Xingona Mujer. Congrats to reservoir Tattoo Studio for winning the Tattoo Competition and to Freddy Negrete and Antonio for receiving awards and recognitions from the Museo Casa Leon Trotsky in Mexico City and La Casa del Tatuaje. See, you have to really analyze and appreciate what is going on here with every event Antonio Pelayo produces, to understand that yes, these are events that will give you the ultimate experience and have a great time. But what he really is saying, is that us as a Raza, as a Cultura, we are a community founding our own Galas, our own cultural events and the support and response is as astounding as the hard work Antonio and his entire family and team sacrifices for us all. With that being said, I just want to give a big shout out with all my love and respect to Antonio Pelayo, his family, Natily Gonzalez, Elvira from Wardrobe Divas, Lea Monique, Edwin from Cold Fire Co. My boy DJ. Gargamel, Eriberto Oriol, Anuh and Yasmin Ferrada, photographer Jenny Jen, Drew, Monalisa, Isaac Pelayo, OG Overgold, the SKA Crew and of course my amiga Pesky Oner . Thank you for reminding me once again how very lucky we are to be part of this exclusive Artistic Raza Unida Community! Till next year and remember; keep creating, keep showing your support and most importantly; Be Proud to be from Los Angeles.

Much Love & Respect

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Antonio Pelayo presents TATUAJE 2016 2nd Annual Tattoo Culture Tribute Soiree Unites 100+ Tattoo Artists, Latin Celebrities, Painters and Musicians to Raise Money For the Arts.

The 2nd annual Tatuaje festival celebrating the distinct tattoo culture of Los Angeles will return Saturday, July 30 at Plaza de la Raza, a kids arts education nonprofit that will be benefitting from proceeds from the event. Hosts Danny Trejo (Machette) and Patricia Lopez (Mex 2 the Max), and emcee Anthony Fernandez will guide partygoers through the night, featuring over 100 top tattoo artists, live painting, a live tattoo competition, an art exhibit by curator Freddy Negrete, music by DJ Gargamel & DJ ChrisRox, band performances by LP3 & The Tragedy, Corey Miller’s Powerflex5, The BlackOuts and Gabbas, and a fashion show by Wardrobe Divas.

Tatuaje 2016 is the secod production of the event by Antonio Pelayo, who will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Plaza de la Raza, a nonprofit that provides afterschool arts education and mentorship programs to children on the eastside of Los Angeles. “The main reason I produce Tatuaje and events like this is so I can raise funds for organizations that teach kids art,” Pelayo says. “Drawing was how I dealt with things growing up, but I had to learn how to do it on my own. What I love about Plaza de la Raza is that these skills and techniques are taught by artists who make a living from their work—who have mastered their craft. That kind of mentorship can’t be taken for granted.” The tattoo is one of the oldest art forms in the world, with the ink on skin phenomenon present in nearly every major civilization throughout history. Tatuaje 2016 is a tribute to the unique tattoo culture of Los Angeles, and its multiheritage meltingpot. The event will take place on Saturday, July 30 from 7pm to 1am at the Plaza de la Raza headquarters, located at 3540 N. Mission Road, Los Angeles, CA 90031.
