Official Press Release:

“Two Well-Known LA Graffiti Artisits Collaborate In An Unexpected Synthesis”

CACHE and AISEborn (ArtIsSelfExpression) have painted murals all over the city. Although the two differ more than stylistically, their collaboration reveals a commonality that goes beyond the human barriers and into the realms of spirit.

OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, December 9, 2017 6pm – 10pm

The artists known as Cache and AiseBorn will show a series of collaborative works in a show aptly titled, Synthesis. Cache’s playful and colorful chicken murals can be spotted on nearly every street corner around the city, while AiseBorn’s massive and impressive mandalas reside in the streets as well as museums.

At first glance, no one would guess two artists would find a common ground artistically. Cache’s cartoon-like characters come in bright, geometric, playful forms, while AiseBorn works with intricate brush strokes and realistic imagery. It was an unexpected yet organically natural union when these two found themselves sharing a mural space after an introduction by their mutual friend, another well-known graffiti artist, Atlas.
“When we come together, we influence each other in unexpected ways. AiseBorn’s work pushes me to flex my other styles; playing with futuristic linear forms and light and shadows.”, says Cache

The show will take place at TONALLI STUDIO in East Los Angeles or “Old Town Maravilla”, a gallery space owned and operated by long time residents and artists, Ofelia Esparza and her daughter Rosanna Esparza Ahrens. Cache and AiseBorn were drawn to the space because of its focus on wellness and community. For the first time, the two artist collaborative works will come together in a new formation on gallery walls. Synthesis will be on exhibit until January 6, 2018.

Ancient Civilizations, Art & Music Festival

What’s Up San Anto, it was great visiting this cultural enriched and heart warming city! Graffiti Heaven, industrial landscapes, train tracks and mobbed carts, just some of the surroundings I explored at the Paint Yard while checking out the Ancient Civilizations; Art & Music Festival. The Paint Yard opened its doors in conjunction with Pop Up Texus; an Art market for all the masses with various taste in art, music and fashion. It was a sunny day and as for us being from California, we are not used to this heat but we still managed to mingle with firme people with the same passion for Art & Community. You all did a great job, looking forward to more events in the near future. Until then, Stay Up from Los Angeles to San Antonio.

Much love & respect,

ENVY OTR SKA

Getting into the mind of a mobber, ENVY, OTR On The Run Crew, SKA Still Kicking Ass. Keeping alive the true essence of Graffiti in Los Angeles, Califas! It is always an honor to be able to bring to light women in this Art Movement, especially the ones that live a low key profile, the Women not caring about the hype, the fame or even asking for attention. “Look at me I’m writing!” Whatever Torta! La EnvyDiosa could care less about any of this, and as the years have gone by; we have become family; carnalas, I respect your Stylo! This is dedicated to my girl La Envy OTR SKA. You are One True Ruca.
So sit back and visualize going back to a time in Graffiti, where you never cared about showing your face to the public and never admitting who you were. A time where you didn’t care about fame and money; just did it for the love of getting up, having good times and bad times with your crew families but most importantly representing them with mad love and loyalty.

The influence of women in the Graffiti Art Movement since the early 1980’s has had its strong presence here in the West Coast and it has been an honor to have met so many of these women. Such names as we know them, made a name for themselves by earning street credibility of “getting up” and living up to the street code of loyalty and love for the game of Graffiti. It is great to see that younger generations are still living up to those standards and earning their own place in this Graffiti Art Movement that is being reshaped and rewritten by its vast transformation in this decade. And although it is difficult to still live up to those standards of keeping Graffiti genuine to its sole purpose of the Writings on the Walls; at such a young age Envy has proved herself to be just as true to the Graff world as many heavy hitter mobbers. Which shows to everybody that gender roles are meaningless if you got heart for what you do.
Envy has been doing Graffiti since the mid 1990’s. From tags to billboards and anywhere the city tumbles her upon, La EnvyDiosa will not let you down.
Stay tune for complete Sitdown Interview!……to be continued

Recap of Rebekah Miles Show

“Women are the Creators of Life and Children are our  Future”- Rebekah Miles

On November 12, 2016, The Arts Works Gallery located at 509 Sullivan Street, Miami Arizona showcased “Rebekah Miles- Fine Art Photography”, her First Solo Exhibit; a milestone for this young and talented Apache Woman. It was such a privilege to be able to attend and support her as I was in the middle of a self discovery journey during this time over in Arizona.

The stars must have aligned for this special night, as I happened to be visiting the San Carlos Apache Reservation, my good friend and Apache Artist Doug Miles, knew I was in his reservation for the week and kindly invited to such a special moment for his daughter’s career.

As you know by now, my mission in life to uplift and support young women in the Arts, I had been invited to the Apache Rez to document Art and Culture and it was an interesting twist as I was able to cover her event. Seeing a younger generation of Native American Artists still inspired by their culture and as Rebekah has stated the importance of her works. As one sees her photography’s subject matter are always women, when I asked Rebekah if this was a mere coincidence, she shared the importance in highlighting Women and Children because they are the Future, as a Woman creates Life, the Children get passed on the Language, tradition and live on for generations to come.

Rebekah Miles exhibit was an intimate setting, close friends, family and supporters made the night as vivid and personal as her body of works displayed at The Arts Works Gallery.  Every photo had its own story, its own highlighted beauty and rich colors, a twist of Contemporary Pop Art and traditional Native Women all wrapped up in a time frame where both worlds meet and create a breathtaking still life of their every day lives. My new fond Din’e Brothers from Hip Hop Group Forbidden Theory performed throughout the show too, big shout to you guys! Really exciting to see young artists collaborating together for Rebekah; you deserve the best! Thank you for welcoming us with open arms to your first solo exhibit, shout out to artist Paul Daniel for welcoming me into your Reservation and Doug Miles for inviting us for this event.

Much Love & Respect,

Monica Smiles Tobon
